Independent Study

Work at your own pace listening to pre-recorded classes. You’ll have up to three months to complete.

What is independent study?

The SSD Online Certification course is a thorough orientation to the position of Social Service Designee in skilled nursing facility.

Students will listen to pre-recorded live classes and follow along using Power Points and other handouts.  The average length of each class is 2 hours, 55 minutes. Homework is assigned with each class and may only be completed after viewing the designated class. The student works at his or her own pace and submits homework after each lesson has been viewed.

Questions after each lesson are encouraged and will be answered at the instructor’s availability.

Independent study is for self-starters and highly motivated individuals. Completion of the course does not guarantee success as a Social Service Director nor employment.  Federal regulations mandate that in a facility of 120 beds or larger, the minimum requirement for a Social Service Director include a bachelor’s degree in social work, sociology, psychology, or gerontology with a minimum of one-year supervised experience in social work in a health care setting.

Students must be proficient in reading and writing in English, have the ability to communicate via email using attachments, and understand, and use professional decorum.

Payment in full is required prior to receiving the lessons, handouts and homework.  Payment can be made via Venmo @Brooke-Russo-4. Course fee is $550 and is non-refundable. Lastly, an invoice can be sent directly to your email and you can pay by credit card.

The course must be completed within three months of registration. Goal is to complete one class per week so a certificate can be obtained at ten weeks.  This course is a thorough orientation to the position of SSD. Without it, you can create vulnerabilities for your residents and your facility; it’s best to complete the course within the shortest amount of time.
